Aims

To develop key scholarly and academic skills including; critical thinking, critical evaluation, research practices, information searching, gathering and formal presentation, evaluation and analysis in the context of games and digital media design and development.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this course a student will be able to:

  1.  Identify and critically evaluate appropriate literature demonstrating analytical and report writing skills.

  2.  Orally present information in a professionally academic manner

  3.  Analyse contemporary games and digital media products using key concepts, theories or methodologies applicable to the subjects.

  4.  Identify and discuss Legal, Social, Ethical and Professional issues and considerations pertaining to information technology.

Techniques for literature searching and evaluation, and information gathering
Research methods.
Information analysis and management.
Problem solving in games and digital media development.
Reflective practice.
Case Studies.
Presentations.
Harvard Referencing and citations.
Legal, Social, Ethical and Professional issues and considerations arising in computer and information systems.
The British Computer Society code of conduct.

Teaching and learning activity

1 hour lecture and 2 hour tutorial.
Lecture sessions supported by tutorial based activities involving problem solving exercises and discussions.
